“Love is when the other person's happiness is more important than your own.” - H. Jackson Brown Jr.
“The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” - Thucydides
“The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.” - Thucydides
Happiness is, as Aristotle says, the meaning and purpose of life and is the whole aim of human existence. Happiness/Pleasure is, as John Stuart Mill says, only thing that we are obligated to increase as a whole. If this is true, what is happiness? If love is wanting the other person's happiness more than your own and the secret of happiness is freedom and courage, wouldn't that mean that being alone and free, or would it mean to be with someone that sets you free and makes you happy as you set them free?
The thought of happiness is confusing, the thought of freedom is something that, in reality, doesn't exist. While America is known for more freedom than anywhere, there are still laws and restrictions that restrict freedom. However, "the truth shall make you free" - John 8:32. Most people in America only know how to lie, and lie well. However, honesty will set you free, the secret of happiness is freedom, the secret to freedom is to have courage, and, to love, you must want the other person to be happy more than yourself. So, you must have courage to love another in such a way that honesty is of the utmost and highest regard. You must be willing to set them free with your honesty and courage. Loving someone is to love them unconditionally, to be willing to die for them as Jesus died for us. He set us free by forgiveness. Thus, forgiveness is freedom for the one you love.
Courage > Honesty > Forgiveness > Freedom > Love
